It's incredibly absurd. Especially given that so many federal crime are just in fact "did you deliberately ignore the regulations drafted by [x] agency? did you smuggle some kind of controlled substance across state lines? sexually abuse a minor in a national park? Lie on your taxes?"

Yeah. But just consider how every previous President has had to be to avoid doing all those crimes. If they had been free to act without all that criminal liability sitting over them, we could have had such a great America.
