i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

I think Dems are different than GOP. There’s less disarray. But it’s more like than not. And it’s both good and bad. If you are sincerely saying this. Then we just don’t agree.

White House mumbles something. Durbin does nothing. Biden doesn’t say anything. AOC now comes out strong. But maybe more or less. Schumer maybe said something Schumer-like. Etc. Even on just the ethical issue, there should be a clear, coordinated, consistent, message and campaign.

What was AOC’s recent call? Impeachment? Or just a hearing? It’s an opportunity for Biden to join, contrast or whatever. (A risk because ‘squad’). A clear distinction vs GOP is the way that there’s no comprehensive “attack” on Thomas from Dems that flood the zone. No coordinated comms.

I don’t disagree. I heard a bit recently on a podcast, but I don’t know. I’m just trying to understand and explain why he’s not out front on this issue.

Is it an error? Or do they not think he can do it? Which is more worrying. But either way it needs to be fixed. Which is what you’ve been saying. And I agree.

That’s pretty much what I said. “He hasn’t been the messenger”. And either on purpose or by error his campaign staff don’t want him out there. And that’s only reinforcing the impression we are all talking about.

To your point about SCOTUS which is new, or Thomas; I don’t think Biden wants to be that adversarial and critical of the Supreme Court. I think the recent appearance is as far as he will go. I disagree as do you. But I think it might be a distinct limitation on this example (judiciary).

Again. I think he’s being doing some of this. (Including pre-debate) eg suing Ticketmaster; loan relief. He’s had what people here say they want: frequent, on point, campaign-able policy moments. What it hasn’t included is Biden being the messenger. Presumably bc campaign is worried about fitness.

I’m not going to claim to know what we’ll get more press. Nor let the press off the hook for only covering train crashes. Part of the well-known problem in the Trump Era, is that he was created in a lab to get attention and be heard in our media ecosystem. And we “cant look away”.
