If only. My mom spent 35 years telling me "both parties are awful & don't do anything to help the average person" then reliably voted for Republicans every year. Much like "Independents" who are mostly temporarily embarrassed Republicans, that just don't want to be held accountable for their views.

I never heard a Dem say that both parties are the same. We know it's not true. It is the preferred dodge of Republicans who don't want to argue or (as you said) be held accountable for their view. They made a choice once, based on fear and loathing, and they are sticking with it, facts be damned.
