Progressive living in Georgia, but always Minnesota Nice until you push me. I have a kid, a husband, and a cat. Can we make this a better place? I'm trying.

Apparently many Americans prefer a president hopped up on Adderall, and awake half the night tweeting raving nonsense.

Well, if anyone had doubts about whether Snowden was somehow compromised by Russia, I feel like this should resolve those doubts.

Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.

Same. I abandoned facebook after the Cambridge Analytica stuff came to light. Went no contact with my mom during the pandemic because I didn't have the emotional bandwidth to listen to anymore stupid bullshit & vitriol. I ceded the extended family to he, so have no one left to "I told you so."

It does make you wonder at what point can you stop being accused as an "alarmist" who is "overreacting" when basically everything we've been trying to warn people about since at least 2016 has come to fruition, & often even more boldly terrible than we could have imagined. 🙄

If only. My mom spent 35 years telling me "both parties are awful & don't do anything to help the average person" then reliably voted for Republicans every year. Much like "Independents" who are mostly temporarily embarrassed Republicans, that just don't want to be held accountable for their views.

NYT is basically just buzzfeed for politics now. They're leaning hard into the clickbait and engagement for engagements sake. We should just stop fucking reading them full stop. Stop rewarding intentional dipshittery to get clicks & shares.

As a reasonably well informed person who votes & has relevant opinions on politics... why hasn't the NYT ever asked me for an interview? Do I not hang out at the right Nathan's hot dog shop located right around the corner from their offices? How do they constantly find the worst/dumbest people?

That Trump is even allowed to run is breathtaking. What kind of system allows someone to run for the land’s highest office after leading an effort to overthrow the government?

A vote for Biden is effectively a 50% a vote for Harris. IF he's that old & decrepit that he can't finish the term, the people trying to shoehorn in Kamala will get what they want too eventually, without directly triggering the white supremacist men contingent of the country to go vote against her.

The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

It is pretty amazing that a guy who wouldn't be eligible to VOTE in several states as a convicted felon could become president. The founders really had no idea how many more guardrails we needed.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise

Absolutely wild that the court accuses the dissent of "fearmongering" with "extreme hypotheticals" when the actual basis for the indictment is a coup attempt that led to an attack on the capitol

No one is coming to save us.

We need to build working-class power, we need to build a movement that can crush fascism, we need to organize like never before.

Because we don't have a democracy to save, but we do have one to build from the ground up.

It makes perfect sense when you realize that fascism is basically malignant narcissism masquerading as a political party. The abuse and gaslighting everyone else is exactly the same coping mechanism.

March 23 1933, the Enabling Act becomes law in Germany, giving the chief executive power enforce his own laws without checks and balances. The passing of the Act marked the formal transition from democratic republic to totalitarian dictatorship. 6 months later, it was a 1 party state.

Under today’s immunity decision, Biden could order AG Garland to immediately prosecute Thomas and Alito for corruption and insurrection. (Official act). If Garland refuses, Biden can fire him and replace him with someone who will. (Official act) I would suggest Elie Mystal.

this entire crusade against diversity in hiring and admissions is based on the supposition that all white men are necessarily more qualified than any nonwhite person or woman who might be considered for the job. like, this lawsuit more or less states that outright.

*standing ovation* Thank you for saying it. Having moved from the upper Midwest to the South, I'd say since moving here 90% of my bosses have been mediocre white guys constantly shielded from their own incompetence. There's a reason all those class action discrimination suits were WON.

One thing about the Trump immunity ruling that was really galling to me... this is same SC who rushed to make sure states could complete *executions* while Trump was still in office. No consideration. Then took ages to carefully craft hurdles to Trump being held accountable for crimes we WATCHED.
