I probably could have adjusted the difficulty to enjoy it more, but the difficulty settings were basically just exposing the raw numbers governing things like frequency of events and enemy stats, with minimal guidance on how to adjust them.

I think my problem there was that the default difficulty was trivially easy, which undermined all sense of urgency and made it feel like my decisions didn't matter. Perhaps I played it too early before they had a chance to properly balance the difficulty.

I tried it a while back but it never grabbed me. I think it was because the mechanics were a little too transparent, so I could "see the matrix" and everyone and everything just became numbers that I couldn't connect with.

Looking at the definition of 'ac-comphist-save', my prime suspect is 'pp', the pretty-printing function it uses to convert the history data structure to text. You could try redefining 'ac-comphist-save', replacing 'pp' with 'prin1', and see if that makes it fast again.

It just needs enough light of the proper wavelength (any visible light that isn't green, IIRC). However, the sun is REALLY bright, so a normal brightness indoor light probably isn't going to get the job done. I don't know specifically how much light any given plant needs, though.

My solution for this is using Syncthing with 2 music folders on my desktop. One of them syncs with my phone and the other one doesn't. So I manage which music goes on my phone entirely from my desktop by just moving files from one folder to the other.

I would also say, this game is great to play with friends and family. The core gameplay is investigating a bunch of interconnected mysteries, so one person can be at the controls while everybody theorizes. (There are scary cosmic phenomena though, so consider carefully for younger children.)
