Back on topic, I’m not a mind reader. I can’t say for sure why the OK schools superintendent is pushing a specific version of the Christian bible on students, but I would bet my life that it’s not out of a deep concern that students learn the history of the United States and its legal system. There are all sorts of “reasonable” justifications for anti-trans policies—protecting children, protecting fairness in sports, protecting people from pharmaceutical companies or from gender ideology or from themselves—but the foundational issue is that some people find trans people icky. [2/x]

For the work I’m doing around trans rights, the thing we ultimately find from polling and messaging research is the need to address is an underlying discomfort with trans people and trans identity. [1/x]

This would have been a GOOD THING (y’know, the evidence-based and research-backed medicine we were promised throughout the 2020 campaign) but A) of course it didn’t happen, and B) of course the fucking NYT would use negative framing for necessary and appropriate trans healthcare
