Maybe a better way to say is not designed for poor people ONLY. Again if you design for the middle class you get the poor as well but not the reverse.

Maybe I’m not explaining it right. But the NYC subway was not designed for poor ppl it was designed for middle class so everyone including wallstreet takes it. A better example is the DC metro which was clearly designed for ppl working in the city. Again everyone uses it.

It would be awesome if there was a train that also went to Santa Monica frankly and apparently there was a trolley that was popular with everyone that the tire companies lobbied to have removed….

Let me contrast that with design with the middle class in mind in Santa Monica. They put a whole bunch of parkings that are free for 3 hours and let you know how many spots there are in them. Convenient for the middle class also makes the few free street spots easier to get for those that need them.

The north Hollywood station also has very little parking and just a few bike spots where you can lock up your bike. Little things like that make it hard to use. In Japan for example they have ample underground bike parking.

For example if you want to go from North Hollywood to Long Beach. The 405 is quite out of the way. Plus there is traffic. One time I took the train and it took me the same amount of time as driving would including traffic. Meaning that without traffic driving would be quicker. Why take the train?

In the case of LA: Designed for ppl who can’t afford a car rather than for those that do. It’s a case where if you design with the middle class in mind you capture the poor as well, but not the reverse. If ppl who can afford a car would not take public transit it will not gain broad adoption.

WTF. The electric company in Texas doesn't have a map of outages so people have been using the Whataburger App to figure out who lost power. This is like when Homer was using the Krusty Burger map when they got lost at sea.

I would say that a far bigger problem is that public transit is designed for poor ppl not the middle class. Making driving in many cases the better choice if you can afford it.
