Genau, das ändert nichts an der Tatsache, dass wir dringend schneller von den Fossilen weg müssen. Entscheidend, ist dass die zusätzliche zukünftige Erwärmung zu 100% von den zukünftigen Emissionen bestimmt ist. Wir haben es in der Hand.

Auch die Aussage, dass Emission und Konz. linear sein müssen, ist falsch. Für eine ca. konstante Airborne fraction ist die Konz. das Integral der Emissionen. D.h. konstante Emissionen führen nicht zu konstanter sondern weiter ansteigender Konzentration. Die Figur zeigt genau was man erwartet.

Einige Aussagen sind wissenschaftlich nicht haltbar. Z.B. wird die CO2 Konz. auch von El Nino beeinflusst, nicht nur den Emissionen. Weder ist 2°C ausser Reichweite, noch gibt es Hinweise, dass da etwas "ausser Kontrolle" ist.

Auf welche Energietechnologien soll die Schweiz setzen? Grundsätzlich ist vieles möglich, aber wenn man geographische, technische und politische Aspekte berücksichtigt, dann haben Solar und Wasserkraft mittelfristig das grösste Ausbaupotenzial.

Renewable energies are not the main driver of biodiversity loss. It is rather the other way round: renewables can limit climate change in order to preserve biodiversity. Cyril Brunner contextualises the trade-​offs from a scientific perspective.

Mit dem Prinzip Mikado – «Wer sich zuerst bewegt, hat verloren» – verfehlt die Schweiz ihre langfristigen Klimaziele. Ein ambitioniertes Inlandziel ist Voraussetzung und macht auch wirtschaftlich Sinn.

CO2 Entfernung (CDR) und Solar Radiation Management (SRM)- Lebensvers. oder Ablenkung von den nötigen Emissionsreduktionen?

Ohne CDR geht Netto Null nicht.
Ein Verbot von SRM wäre schön aber ist nicht durchsetzbar, daher Forschung, zugänglich für alle.

Der mildeste Februar in der Schweiz seit Messbeginn, 4.5 Grad über der Norm 1991-2020, die auch schon sehr warm ist. Und der mildeste Winter in der Schweiz seit Messbeginn. Als Folge kaum Schnee in tieferen Lagen.

Statt Fakten abstreiten sollten wir besser gemeinsam Lösungen finden. Die Schweiz hat mit ausgezeichneter Forschung Bildung und einer starken Wirtschaft alles dafür. Klimaschutz und Energiewende ist günstiger als nichts tun.

Reduzierte Luftverschmutzung, El Niño, und/oder Zufall? Oder Indizien dass sich die Erwärmung beschleunigt?

The EU’s Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change highlights the need for stronger efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Switzerland avoids this by not being part of the EU, letting others reduce for us, and by not having an advisory board 😉

2023 was not only the warmest year on record, but almost every day since July has seen a new global air temperature high for the time of year.
We do not fully understand what happened last year.

Der mit Abstand grösste Teil der Bevölkerung hat inzwischen den Klimawandel als Problem anerkannt. Lasst uns also nicht weiter über das Problem, sondern über die Lösungen sprechen, darüber, was wir gewinnen und wie die Schweiz künftig aussehen soll.

With 2023 in the bag (all bar the counting), what do 2024 temperatures look like? I predict a slight likelihood (55%) of another record year because of the ongoing El Niño event. But given the exceptional nature of 2023 (more on that later), perhaps less confidence is warranted?

With the November GISTEMP data, the projected 2023 annual mean is certain to be new record, and clearly outside of the spread of the predictions I made at the beginning of the year - underlining the exceptional nature of how this year's anomalies unfolded.
