What's also helped re: self-consciousness; I've deliberately limited my friendliness in the past because I've associated "friend" with "someone who needs me to take care of them". I'm trying to re-learn that it's okay to have friends and still trust that they can take care of themselves.

I guess that association came up b/c when I was a teenager, the people I hung out with were in that in-between state of being taken care of by parents and needing to be an adult. I guess it's SIGNIFICANTLY easier when everyone is definitely an adult now.
