The thing about Chevron—the original case was in favor of the more conservative Reagan EPA and its efforts to reduce regulation under the Clean Air Act. As they lost power in the agency, Conservatives grew to hate the decision. They want one rule when in power and another rule when not in power.

To help me on my journey of learning Icelandic, I picked up a children’s book by Yrsa Sigurðardottir and a more advanced (YA, I think) book by @hildur.bsky.social. Looking forward to seeing how well I can progress through them 😁

I automatically buy anything from Kristin Cashore. Which means I may also preorder way in advance, completely forget about it, and get a nice surprise one afternoon.

Excited for the Elden Ring DLC. I never vibed with the Souls games prior but ER ended up being one of the few open world games I finished. My advice to new players is to embrace exploration and the unknown and be ok with being completely foxed from time to time (or, in my case, frequently).

The average PC user would need help installing. There are distros out there that, if installed for them, use wouldn’t present any more difficulty than Windows or MacOS for the average person.

The sculpture is of “The Herring Girls.” A nice tie to the history of the town. I agree it has a very interesting story!

I came to Siglufjörður because it is a setting for novels I’ve read by Ragnar Jónasson. Setting aside the literary interests, it is one of the loveliest places I’ve seen in Iceland.

Yes—the Ring Road, route 1. I would like to that some day. With your skill with a camera, I think you’d enjoy Iceland immensely.

This is the second time I’ve driven around here and on the whole I’d say it’s pretty easy.

It’s not a problem at all this time of year. If you want to drive north and you come earlier or later in the year, you have to check the road conditions. Driving around Reykjavík is easy enough. In the country the roads are narrow so you have to watch for people passing and for single-lane bridges.

I like the ones I’ve read from the list. I don’t see Dhalgren mentioned much anymore and I’m stoked that you mentioned Angela Carter!

I know next to nothing about the top two candidates in tomorrow’s elections here in Iceland yet I feel confident that their two choices are better than ours.

Also, you can get great licorice in Reykjavík. If they ever marketed it in the U.S., I guess they’d change the name.

Sky Lagoon is nice and nearer Reykjavík city center. If you don’t mind driving maybe 45 min I’d recommend Hvammsvík as a great little spot right at ocean level. You can get out of the lagoon and take a dip in the ocean water, if you like.
