When I lived near ASU in Tempe, bikes got stolen all the time. It amazed me how common it was, and what lengths people would go to, to steal even a crappy bike. I heard rumors of stolen bike rings with ties in Mexico. Here's a fascinating story about one of these. www.wired.com/story/silico...

College campuses are rife with bike theft. I was lucky enough that I could bring my bike inside and leave it in my studio space or in the back room at my job so it wasn't chained to a bike rack.
