This feels very much like Pixar and Disney just don't want to risk anything, or even try to do something different which is a shame since Pixar was built on pushing boundaries with both narratives and technology.

But instead they lay blame at directors having catharsis for their own stories which... feels really shallow. Soul, Turning Red, Elemental, and Luca are amazing personal narrative driven films that moved me. Especially Soul! Elemental was incredible! And it ended up being a success (500 mil)

The article barely mentions COVID and how Disney under Chapek put all pixar films to Disney Plus. They spend maybe a paragraph going over that, which to me is the main reason Pixar movies struggled. They never got traditional theatrical wide releases! That's going to impact your profit!

The idea that you only focus on commercially, broadly liked things rather than authentic personal narrative stories is what will make Pixar a husk of itself. It's a confusing thing to pursue when your next movie release (Inside Out 2) which focused on a personal narrative!

But one of the things that is so funny to me is that the entire piece focuses on the leadership team of Pixar and they are explaining how they felt about the past few movies they put out (bad) and how they are going to turn things around (sequels)

Going to go more in depth on this in the podcast tonight but the recent Bloomberg piece about Pixar show Disney/Pixar is so out of step from what is happening with movie goers and why they think their movies aren't performing well.

The ability to parse nuance for this stuff is just not present in online discussions which is so upsetting. 2 things can be true, 1. You can critique a candidate for political office 2. you can also acknowledge that candidate will be better than another

My wife used to be in the influencer crowd and seeing/hearing about all the hoops that needed to be jumped through just to get in front of an established audience * and * make money from it is mind boggling. They are really just a social media policy change away from losing a lot.
