I saw news articles reporting that the GOP declaring the border is open actually caused surges (not sure if data fully backed that up), so this seems to be the same game plan to appear harsher to deter some crossers. Though I wish they'd just discharge petition the Senate Bill.

Do people who are trudging across several countries are going to keep up with the news? The WH can make big announcements but the only people who are listening are those highly online. I have a feeling that some of this is for show. Just to watch the GOP object to it because a Dem proposed it.
