Birder. Amateur photographer. Mostly birds but other things at times. Feed cleansing one photo at a time.
Reflections at the Rocks Reserve near Balaklava yesterday. I had the place to myself, which is always lovely. Today, it was full of birders looking for that rare bird. Glad I got in early! 😄

Australia has more than 250 species of sundews (drosera). I love taking photos of these carnivorous plants and now, through to spring, is the best time to find them. These sundews were at Spring Gully Conservation Park yesterday.

Wow - you must have been really close to a nest. Not usual behaviour for these guys. In my case, I was sitting in my car when I took my photos, thankfully.

After hearing of an unusual bird being seen at The Rocks Reserve yesterday, I went looking for it today - and found it!
White-fronted gerygones are not usually South Australian birds so a cool sighting. Though one was seen at Gluepot too during my last visit there.

Eagle Rock at Boolcoomatta.
This is where I sit quietly, just before dusk, to watch the yellow-footed rock wallabies come out. This is their habitat.
Also, great sunset views to Dome Rock and beyond from this high point.
I love it up here.

Sad to see that the huge old dead gum tree at my bus stop is gone.
I've watched, over the past few years, as a pair of galahs have been hollowing out the top.
I saw them this morning - sitting on a nearby light pole.
They'll be wondering where their tree went 🙁
Dead trees have value.

This month we have 'Stickybeaks'
Curious teenager emus at Boolcoomatta came all the way from the horizon right over to see what I was doing. The wildflowers include darling peas, swainson-peas and native daisies.

I think I've shared most of my Boolcoomatta shots. But here are some from the camera trap which I set up at a puddle near the camping ground. Nothing exciting but interesting to see what came in for a drink (red kangaroos and emus).

Lachlan is not the type of doctor you'd need for a medical emergency on board an aircraft (though his skills with Flight Simulator might be handy if a pilot is needed 🤣) but I did enjoy the celebrations when he received his PhD in Dec 2019 ... just before Covid swept the world.

My son turns 36 today. 36! So proud of his achievements (a PhD from ANU, his meteoric rise to Principal Engineer at Microsoft) but mostly I'm proud of the decent caring human being that he has become. Quote below by Lachlan in 2013 while studying at ANU 😄

I hesitate to mention this in case I jinx myself, but it has been a full two years since I had any type of respiratory illness. And, as far as I know, I haven't had covid yet. Two years without even so much as a cold. Yes, I do consider myself lucky. May my luck continue!

Just watching a documentary where researchers have worked out that the leg tendon of a grey kangaroo can take a force of 880 newtons. That's for the mathy types here. I have no idea what that means. It's a lot, apparently.
Anyway, here's a red kangaroo to accompany this factoid.
