Yes, it’s surprising how little people know about whipping and how it affects our entire government. It is a matter of party discipline, and to be frank there’s a lot to be said for NOT constantly whining about the policies of the party that got you the job in the first place. Complicit.

Certainly true when it comes to the policies of one's own party. But what about coalition partners? I find it difficult to understand that my electorate MP is supporting (as one example) smoke-free changes when nobody here voted them in for that. Especially when they are a medical professional.
