@swantower.bsky.social
@abraham.bsky.social : the funny thing about your book is that I haven't read the first one yet; I'm buying each one and waiting until the trilogy is complete to read them all in one go - I loved both your previous series, so I'm going on trust π

2024-27. The book that wouldn't burn, by Mark Lawrence (@marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social) - 5/5
This is now my 2nd favourite of his trilogies, I loved it!
Themes of time, permanence, conflict+compromise, the relevance of civilisations, handled in a very personal way and leaving a lasting impact.

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

2024-26. A Bookshop of One's Own, by Jane Cholmeley - 4/5
This is the history of the Silver Moon bookshop in London (1984-2001) told by one of the owners. It reflects the history of women's publishing and lesbian history in that period.
Very interesting, and I'm sad I wasn't able to visit.

I live in West Yorkshire and the main streets are all gates haha
Most related to directions or King/Queen.
I've only seen the Bars in York, but then again, not many towns still have 'proper' gates.

Last week a colleague and I gave the LGBTQ+ training at my workplace, it went super well! I feel more confident for any future trainings.
Of course, being voluntary, we really didn't get those that probably most needed to hear the message...

I took my time solving these logic puzzles, but to be honest I never really got into the mystery/plot behind it, it was really just about the puzzles (which I can get much cheaper in simple logic puzzle books at W.H.Smith, haha)

Secondly, this is a miniature portrait from around 1660. It comes with overlays that allow you to change her appearance for fun. Filters from 500 years ago lol!

2024-24. The Last Passenger, by Will Dean - 1/5
Sorry, not for me (part of a book bundle I won).
It started well, mysteriously, then the premise turned completely and it became an awful book, for people who like torture/horror.
I've seen ratings between DNF and 5, so it will appeal to some...
