If that's how you buys cars I guess it doesn't affect you but I did buy a car in 2019 as a matter of fact and it is payed off and worth over 20k still and I was never underwater.

ICE cars lost value less than EVs, I thought that was implied in my posts? I think you would be hard pressed to find an ICE car that lost as much value as an EV6 or Ionic 5. Not even close.

I am not sure better is the right word. You can get a 2023 Ionic 5 for under 30k, which is normally a 50k car new. Same car. Also for a wild loss take a look at the Audi E-trons.

Maybe you're okay with having over payed for a car by 20k, but I think it would suck. It isn't a year out, it's 3 years out and the guy who bought it used has it payed off and you're still 20k in. How fun. And have fun buying gap insurance. Sometimes your situation changes and you want a new car.

People have no idea how efficient an ICE is, they know they can fuel up in five minutes and that there will be gas stations all over the place. It's still a lot more tricky with electric cars.

It's not an investment, but it certainly is a bummer that someone buying your car a year old has to take out a much smaller loan, and it also means having to carry gap insurance.

Still even with the terrible efficiency of ICE, it has a lot more energy. It's that EVs are 90-95% efficient that they can even compete at all. Here's a good video on energy density:

Also until recently they were significantly more expensive and less available and had terrible charging infrastructure. And now that we see the used market, and EVs have lost a significant amount of value compared to ICE cars, maybe people were right to wait and see.

I live in Portland Oregon, I know about homeless issues but also life has been returning to normal pre-covid. Are things perfect? of course not, but things are a lot better, crime, economy, etc. He's not out of touch since I'm not some rich guy and I see it too.
