My parents still have one. I'm fairly sure they were fairly common when I was young (even though no-one knew how to use them)

My MP has just prefixed her oath of allegiance with a little speel in Irish, then said that she doesn't agree with the oath, but is taking it anyway. (Hate that type of usage)

Does anyone have a csv or similar to hand with the UK general election vote counts by party and constituency?
The Commons Library is posting them next week but I'm impatient ๐Ÿ˜„

I do think it would be nice to have a language that I could use to speak to my wife and feel confident no one around me could understand. If learning a language for that purpose, I wouldn't use Irish though. (Since it might be understood in Ireland)

In my schooldays in NI, speaking Irish felt more of an anti-British thing than anything to do with heritage. Personally I don't see much value in learning a language that doesn't help you communicate with people who couldn't communicate with before. However it's not a popular position to take in NI.

Now playing the game of "swear or affirm" when politicians are declaring allegiance to parliament. I really need to get back to work!

I remember cupรกn tae, now that you mention it! It's a language that I don't find particularly pretty, but that's obviously very subjective.

Ah, my chain-drinking is generally green and oolong (from much further east of those places) Occasionally have something dark like a Lapsang Souchong or a Lady Gray in the evening for something different.

We only see each other a few times a year. We get on fine and have similar senses of humour. Is just that we like and are interested in completely different things. Food, drink, holidays, politics, social media, having children, urban living, you name it, we're different.

My dad lent it to me. (he got it at a book signing) It's not my normal sort of book and I think it's a bit long-winded. Haven't got to the end yet, but seems to be coming to the conclusion that unification would open big cans of worms. Not really news to anyone with an ounce of common sense.

Used to get the bus to work that left before the bus that should have got me there on time, but that was usually delayed.

I've found Metro buses to be fairly unreliable and trains to be usually delayed. However I'll admit I rarely need to use them. My main ire comes from being a student when I needed to use them to get to and from my parents' house and uni and to a part time job. They were awful.
