The cockamamie nonsense people are coming up with to avoid the nominee being Harris if Biden steps down is partly convincing me that the whole thing is just summer silly season Beltway boredom. It's the endless fantasy of a brokered convention now seeming tantalizingly close.

It’s not written in all caps, ergo it wasn’t written by Trump. Trump knows about Project 2025 but whoever has the keys to his account wants us to think he doesn’t.

I hope Starmer reinvests in higher education in the UK and not just to increase my potential escape options if Trump wins in November, but because it’s disgusting damage the Conservatives have done to education there over the past few years.

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here.
Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.

In fairness, Keir told us all he would do that from the beginning.

I appreciate Sunak scheduling the vote for the 4th of July. Now Americans and British both have a reason to celebrate that day!

I understand why Aaron Sorkin has his fantastical vision of how politics works. I didn’t think so many people who ostensibly know actual politics would have such a similar view.

Ahh, not Sinai, obvious, but Sunak. Damn autocorrect although I like that the algorithm has already assigned him to oblivion.

I was kind of hoping the Tories would fall so much that the LibDems would become the official opposition but the exit poll suggests that the destruction of the Conservatives won’t be quite that severe. Still, quite he electoral rebuke for Sinai et al!

Popcorn has no idea what day it is today. If she did, she wouldn’t be sleeping peacefully besides me on the couch but would already be cowering under the bed in anticipation of the loud noises to come.

In which I give my opinion on the UK elections. Essentially it’s that everyone hates the Tories because they suck.

I, for one, am incredibly thankful for Yascha for sparing me the anxiety of ever wondering if I might be the worst political scientist alive. Even on my darkest days, I know I’m better at this than him.

It’s a little difficult to count because some countries celebrate independence from the UK and another colonial power, and I really disagree with counting Pakistan and Malta but…
The UK is solely responsible for about 53 independence days worldwide.

I enjoyed the series overall despite the problems, though I watched it about a decade ago and you’re probably right that it is less good now as other shows (partially building on Alias) have overtaken it since.

This ties into the Rambaldi stuff but even if they didn’t go that mysticism route and stuck with pure espionage it would still be annoying to discover, for the 3rd time, that, no, SD6 actually worked for a different group than wr said they did earlier.

All your criticisms are spot on. I would add, though, that my biggest criticism of the series was how every season-and-a-half or so, it would reboot itself, revealing a new bad guy or structure or situation that was supposedly there all along.

I would say that puts UK voters above US voters since the Republicans suck more and not everyone hates them here, but the UK put up with the Tories for 14 straight years while US voters were smart enough to get rid of Trump after 4 (even if we may not be smart enough to not bring him back.)

Curious to know how AI could help Biden walk more easily.
No, wait, I’m not curious. I don’t want to know.

One of the few people who blocked me on Twitter. I never replied or QTed him but I did once reference him in a tweet with a typo that called him twee that I then jokingly referenced. He must have searched his name and decided my typo was blockworthy.
