I wrote a heist novel about a Black woman who, after falling behind on her student loan payments, gets harassed so bad by debt police that she joins up with two friends to try and take out her student loan company. Summer 2025!

ooh! I will be sure to tune in. Minor note, I wish they'd put your degree behind your name like they did for some other panelists.

by the way, I hate that I missed your presentation at AERA! Perhaps you addressed some of this there.

did you feel like AERA captured the reality of this existential threat? I feel like the conference left a little to be desired in this area.

By the way, when I wrote this, I got pushback from academic publishers (I think we had mainly had different ideas of what it meant to "cost" something, honestly), but my offer from back then still stands: pitch a response!

Journalist here! I'm looking for moms who experienced a heat wave while pregnant and gave birth 3+ weeks early.
I'm writing a piece about the intersection between climate and pregnancy (and race). Many thanks for any reposts to help spread the word!

“Training an AI model on terabytes of data as well as feeding it prompts are data-dense processes that use much more power than, say, an equivalent Google search. One study in Joule projected that, globally, AI applications could use as much power as the entire nation of the Netherlands by 2027.”

I've been rewatching Scandal and it is a wild ride. We need a behind the scenes on this show because I have questions. Plus, its interesting to think about Fitz/Kerri and consent. Their interactions would not fly on TV today.

May be too abstract for your interests but: I'm struck by the near absence of (fictional) labor stories in TV/film right now while so much labor action is happening in real life!
Do folks leading labor movements have thots about the power of TV/film to shape ideas/help us imagine what's possible?

Leave the World Behind was a waste of time. I actually wasn't mad at the ending... It was the only part that made sense to me. The suspicion and unhelpfulness of the characters made the movie slow and strange.
