I really wish Shigeru Mizuki's non-biographical works got more love in the west. Kitaro only got a best of series that tapped out after seven volumes and his Yokai encyclopedia has been continuously delayed for over a year now. At least Kazuo Umezu has been getting a trickle of releases.

Gundam has been dripping with gay subtext since the very beginning with Char/Garma. The new series was primarily a lesbian romance. It was extremely good.

The Gundam subreddit did the same last year. The fact that there was any backlash at all to the pride banner was very weird since the latest Gundam show was very gay. Fortunately it's overwhelmingly a community of decent people.

ChatGPT already has “Ph.D.-level intelligence,” in that once you remove it from its extremely narrow field of expertise (assembling words into credible-sounding passages) it is wildly out of its depth, but people vastly overestimate its authority because they don’t understand what “intelligence” is.

This was my daily experience working at the Buckhead Whole Foods in Atlanta in college. We had the wife of a wealthy lawyer compulsively shoplifting pills, tons of day drunks and one woman who brought a roller bag filled with containers of feces that she threw all over the bathroom, twice.

The Luddites didn't oppose technology they simply didn't want to work 60+ hours a week for scant pay or to be maimed or killed by the machinery they used. People weren't going around naked before the advent of the spinning Jenny. You have no clue what you're talking about.

It's brutal but you can tell that Tomino really loves people and hates to see them hurt. His entire body of work is about the value of trying to understand others and the injustice of political systems that drive people apart. Terrible things happen but we also see so much love from ordinary people.

Yep and the war is the result of attempting to solve climate change with space colonization and how it just created an oppressed class of people in space who eventually decide to start hurling space debris at earth in an effort to achieve independence and turn earth into a nature preserve/holy site.

Gundam is explicitly about a society that tried to use tech to solve political/human issues and all they ended up with was 60 meter tall death machines piloted by children waging near perpetual war. But a lot of people seem to miss the point and just see Wow, cool robot!

Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of Gundam, was recently asked about real life space colonization and he openly mocked the idea as well as Musk specifically. He basically said that he's written about dystopia for his entire career and questioned why anyone would want to live in a world like that.

The majority of it anyway, lol. I had thought I had been collecting them for 25 years but my mom recently found a box that had some gundam erasers I got from a teacher in first grade for finishing all my work each week. So I guess the collection started in the early 90's.

I've seen Limozeen perform live. They opened for Of Montreal and a drunk guy in the audience didn't know what they were and had a violent freakout and got thrown out after taking a swing at someone else.

If AI could reliably lasso a specific character or flat a line drawing, that would be great! But that AI will never get made because the aim of the people making AI is to fully replace artists, not to help us work. So why would they ever talk to artists to learn what we might want from AI?
