This is so true. I struggled with math until my sophomore year of high school, when I got my first good math teacher. All of a sudden I went from struggling to being an A+ student, and got 100% in every math class from then through to earning my degree.

Yup. Was distinctly average at maths until "Maths for Geology" at Uni when I finally got a decent maths teacher. Final exam he took my pen off me just before I wrote the final figure down.. "No-one gets 100% on my exams. See me later" ..and bought me a pint in the pub. Great bloke.

The way math is taught is criminal. I have so many friends who hate math because it got taught by people who were more interested in humiliating 10 years old than in teaching. And then there's the teachers who are just... incompetent and uncaring; or the ones who do care who don't have the resources

As a child I used to breeze through math class, sometimes even getting better than some teachers. So I was not at all prepared when I hit Trigonometry and for the first time in my life I actually needed to learn, train, and crunch at math. The teacher I had at the time didn't help either
