Anyway in case you've been wondering why the Times has it's knife into the Biden admin, here's why. They reduced access for the most access obsessed dipshits in America. Thats all it took. Well, that and Biden saying Sulz should pay higher taxes on his personal wealth

Biden should just refuse to allow the NYT to attend WH press briefings going forward & release a statement that its because they cannot be trusted. One President already undermined them to half the country. The next one doing it will finish them off. Sulz wants to play this game, they should oblige

This will be one about hope, though maybe not "hope" as it is usually meant.

Hope is a defiant act taken against those who would sabotage any act of reparation—and sabotaging repair is exactly what fascism does.

For this reason, hope is what is needed right now.

This chart communicates pretty effectively why it's taking a while for the last 18 months of good solid economic conditions to fully take hold in people's minds— because look at the three years of chaos before that.

We have a 25th Amendment. I’m comfortable with how it works. And deeply uncomfortable with doing experimental jazz outside of it. On one side, I know what the line of succession looks like, and while I don’t love cops, I’m okay with her non-cop work. The other side is a shit show with nothing.

Apropos of nothing, if your child needs help researching they can get it from actual information experts by going to AnyQuestions.govt.nz and get help from librarians who will direct them to reliable resources they can use. We should fund more things along this line and not fall back on AI.

What happens when people with the institutional power to fight evil people don’t fight is those without institutional power despair. You can blame desperate people for the suffering that’s coming their way, if you want, but doing so doesn’t distinguish you from fascists.

How accurate is the weather forecast in your city?

Niko Kommenda and I learned that NWS just began doing gridded assessments of forecast accuracy. We got the data and mapped of how many days into the future they get within 3°F of the observed high temp.

Anyone suggesting we have a conversation about Biden stepping down fundamentally does not understand how the sausage gets made inside the party or how dependent the candidate is on autonomous local parties and their bosses (for better or for worse, usually for worse).

The wealthy conservative interests who funded and created the legal movement that has now started to undo the administrative state could afford to take decades to do it because the “tyranny of unelected bureaucrats” was a purely theoretical problem. They made money, just less than they might have.

I think the reason Philip K Dick is still the predominant SF writer of the last century is, he was the only one who foresaw a future where everything would be boring, inconvenient and dehumanising, and where the only way you can win is to somehow refuse to give up your humanity.

Even though its 80 yrs old, I still teach Paul Lazarfelds ‘The Peoples Choice’ study about how voters make up their minds in elections vis a vis mass media bc it basically hit the nail on the head. Summarized, his main takeaway was “the ppl watching arent movable and the movable ppl arent watching”

Ideally, Biden's team would only have agreed to debate if every time a candidate told an obvious lie, that candidate would have a 10-minute time out during which their mike would be turned off, the moderators would quickly note the lie, and the debate would proceed normally otherwise.

On the same morning, the Court said: 1) We should not presume to know more than small town mayors regarding complex, technical questions like whether to arrest people for being poor. 2) I don't see why a "PhD" in "nuclear physics" should have any latitude to implement ambiguous energy rules.

The election isn’t really about Biden vs. Trump: It’s a referendum on whether the effort to finally realize the promise of a truly democratic, pluralistic, multiracial society should be continued – or abolished altogether. Those are the stakes. 17/

This is so true. I struggled with math until my sophomore year of high school, when I got my first good math teacher. All of a sudden I went from struggling to being an A+ student, and got 100% in every math class from then through to earning my degree.

Oh, this is a terrible idea. How you fund your future Social Security eligibility is based on your income. If your tips aren’t reported/counted as income, you’re erasing at least half of your earnings from your Social Security contribution. It’s a short-term benefit that will devastate long-term. 🎁

It's an odd thing to me, too. The (non-evangelical) Christian school I went to had Bible study class every day and Mass every Monday morning and Friday afternoon. But no posting of or focus on the Ten Commandments. Beyond general ed, the school was about being like Jesus and being kind to others.
