And NOT to improve our prospects as degreed employees/workers or end systems of racist, education practices traveling down from higher-ed all the way to the root of pre-school. That's racism, on its face. They don't have to say 'me hate negroes'; you just have to examine their actions/solutions.

ALSO also, the constant attack, not just on Affirmative Action, but on the mere presence of our existence(s) in PWI (predominantly white institutions), and there's no wonder why they believe "illegal" immigrants are taking our jobs. But the solution is to use us as an anti-immigration wedge issue-

Now couple that with the fact that Black people take on the greatest burden of student loans, have the least in terms of generational wealth (by design), and are less likely to complete degrees due to the hostility felt in PWIs:

The focal point on "Black Jobs" is "illegal" immigration taking them away from us but it will never be the massive wage gap when Black workers are degreed and in our industries.

"Illegal" immigrants/migrant workers are not stealing high level, degreed jobs. They're mainly being exploited in agriculture and in the service industry - the two industries that have been the purview of Black workers historically due to, well, History™ and also are underprotected as a rule...

First thing's first: Republicans have been pushing that "illegal" immigrants are stealing jobs. Everyone's jobs. But the focal point during that segment of the debate was Black jobs as if our jobs were more at stake than any others in the country. Which... kind of gives up the game, in a way.

So this is what sparked that thread yesterday because I wanted to provide evidence that "Black Jobs" wasn't just some inarticulate blunder but a full on dog whistle for the jobs Black people should be slated for. And instead I came away with some findings on access to education, jobs & salary.

I'm just saying it's interesting to explore that but it would also explain our under-representation in other fields as less "not smart/savvy/talented enough" and simply "accepting another burden unseen by the rest of America". 🤷🏾‍♂️

In reality, maybe we just aren't that interested in STEM as a community. Or... maybe being the (grand-) children of a previous generation that saw/lived through the worst this country has to offer, that most of our interests in how we change/navigate this world is in changing policy/law?

But really, on the surface? In my opinion (and hurried conclusion): Is it surprising that, in a country with the history it has that there's a sense of 'civic duty' in trying to ensure that the system(s) in which we operate are the most just/viable for our community?
