As a Canadian in Alberta who has been through this a couple of times now, expect to see the Conservatives and Reform merge, dragging the Tories further to the right. If not by the next election, then if Labour wins that one too.

One of the things I'll do if I have to make a work phone call to a name I'm not familiar with is try to sound it out first. I remember calling for a woman with a Greek surname once and how pleasantly surprised she was that someone pronounced it correctly. My surname is unusual, so I felt her pain.

It doesn't even have to be verbal. People will respond to a short email from me with my name right there in both the signature and the email address by misspelling my name. Which, again, is not particularly complicated nor does it have a "unique" spelling. I'm not a Makayla.

It's something I've dealt with my entire life, where people will mispronounce my real name despite it not being at all complicated and having it written down right in front of them or having heard me introduce myself with it 30 seconds earlier.

So it's kinda fascinating watching TCG pack openings when people come across names and words they're not familiar with and how often they'll settle on pronunciations that seem right to them even if that contains letters not in the actual word, or vice versa.
