I have to believe it won’t go downhill just for my sanity, maybe denial on my part, but we are in a wildly dangerous condition that could light up so fast

Thinking about this alongside the Heritage Foundation president saying "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.” They are salivating for pretext.

And my dear Glaucon, would it not be even better if, instead of our philosopher king, absolute power were invested in our man of shamelessness?

In Thucydides’ history of the peloponnesian war, the Athenians get mad at how Pericles runs the war effort and resolve it by fining him. Such a move is unthinkable today. Oh Mr Bush you fucked up and killed a million people you must pay a small fine

So much killing is happening. Regular people waking up every day and freely deciding to squander their one and only life by killing massive numbers of innocent people

There’s a lot of optimism in energy modeling about the structural decline of coal even though we have 140 years of coal left in accessible reserve. Maybe this is what it’ll be used for

Doing my first tv interview ever tonight with Channel News Asia and have very little idea what I’m walking into but I read it’s like 6 million weekly viewers so I hope it goes well!

The Guardian’s article on my book.

“Elaborate yet accessible…Future of Denial is an eloquent, forthright text about the realities of the crisis and where it’s heading.”

Father’s Day used to feel devastating but, since having kids, has felt redeemed into a very sweet day. Things can get better

"Capitalism was never a good system -- I've been on record in favor of its abolition my entire adult life -- but it at least used to be minimally *legibile* to the general public. Now, nothing really makes sense to anyone but high-level investors..."

Say you’re in a classic “Scylla and Charybdis situation.” Do you fall for the trap like Odysseus? Or avoid drama by sailing around it like Aeneas? Makes you think 🤔

There comes a point in a man’s life were he wishes to acquire a Scofield Reference Bible to see what the hell was going on. The Christian Zionism article I’m writing for Parapraxis is pushing me to that point

If two presidential candidates were to declare that Gaza should be flattened, you would be sure to see a news analysis with the headline “Blowing Up Kids: Both Sides Have a Point.”

Thanks for sharing here. I haven’t been on Bluesky as much, preferring the other site since I’m promoting a book that just published. So I’m glad it made its way here!

I’m going viral over on the other site for the most wholesome solidarity content. Nobody’s even being weird or hostile about it. Just good encouraging vibes

There is so much killing and so many people who get paid to facilitate that killing and too many people in busywork sectors who are whining about students who demand less killing. It’s maddening

I cannot figure out how to get a paper accepted at AAR. I’ve put in bad proposals in the past but this was the second time I proposed to the Ecology unit on research that nobody else I know of is doing, aiming to show how to integrate RS and IPCC socioeconomic pathways and models. No interest

Some non-zero amount of pedagogy discourse happens here or Twitter because many instructors are implicitly discouraged from improving education methods (can create conflict) or even discussing improvements (which would point out the terminal decline) so it gets emptied into the void

Feels like nearly every educator I know, elementary through college, is talking about noticeable declines in literacy or conceptual understanding almost semester to semester now. All while the push for assessments is incentivizing data showing success on whatever metric. Everything is fine

My favorite chapter in my book is the history of Earth told through CO₂. Chemistry and geology are strangely subversive fields and I wish more philosophers would learn a bit more from them
