My aunt, who is living with my mom, was there with her. I’m so glad my aunt is staying with my mom. They’re two granny sisters living together. My mom does gardening and outside stuff (when she’s not having surgery) and my aunt cooks. My mom says it’s like having a wife.

I got a call this afternoon: “This is nurse so-n-so with the such-n-such OR. Can you confirm the patient’s name?” Me: the who what now? Nurse: I need you to confirm the patient’s name for a status update. Me: I don’t know any— wait. Is it [my mom]? Nurse: Yes. She’s out of surgery and doing fine.

Ugh. As someone who was a full time adjunct professor for many years, there’s nothing empowering about not ever knowing if you’ll have a job next semester, not having most faculty access (like copy machines), and getting paid a quarter of your colleagues for teaching the same damned classes.

Googling “best countries to retire to on a budget.” Some places you just have to show income of like $1500 a month and you get to use their free/inexpensive state healthcare and everything as a permanent resident.

They have no idea how to stop it either. At one point I they were having parents wait til 4-5 years old to introduce peanut butter and then studies started showing that was actually making things worse.

I really think it goes back to the awful conservative “most of them want to be homeless actually” opinion. They absolve themselves of basic human empathy by believing homeless people choose to be homeless and should just stop being homeless.
