5 – put ½ to 1 C of milk in a cup. You may not use all of it. Powdered milk mixed with water is okay. Some people like to use buttermilk for cakes (and it’s available powdered too). 6 – in the other small bowl, crack a room-temperature egg and whisk with a teaspoon or two of sugar.

7 – Stir the dry mixture into the creamed butter/sugar mixture. Stir in the egg, then start adding milk. You can use a beater, but stirring also works. Recipe called for about ¼ C milk, but if you want the cake moister, make a more liquid batter by adding more until it’s runny and can be poured.
