Demand response at a residential level is hugely challenging to get widespread adoption. Consumers mostly just don't care that they are contributing to the possibility of blackouts, they want their poorly insulated 30 square house to be a chilly 18 degrees.

American capitalism has at it's core the misguided belief that anyone can become a millionaire if they work hard enough, ignoring that success is the result of many complex factors. Survivorship bias combined with rugged individualism is the Kool-Aid of American workers.

In the long run it's more likely that AI improves to a point where most white collar knowledge based jobs are destroyed, while corresponding improvements in robotics and automation destroy blue collar jobs, leaving most people without jobs. Not sure what happens after that.

The vast majority of the workforce have zero ability to influence the key policy levers that drive the economy. The RBA can keep raising rates longer than you can afford to pay your mortgage.
