I just got done reading the chapters in this book about the US plans in 1812 to take Florida from the Spanish, and then the ensuing attempt to purge the Seminoles and Black people. Makes me REALLY want to dig deeper and write a long form piece about Osceola and Chief Alligator using DEI to kick ass

No, I mean the party apparatus. If they wanted an alternative to Biden they would have needed to get them out there well before the primaries. To be clear, I’m not saying they SHOULD have done that. Biden is their best candidate. I’m just saying that they don’t need Republicans “forcing” them.

It should not be controversial to say that prison sexual violence and/or coercion is never a good thing or an appropriate thing to joke or threaten about, even when the target is someone terrible. It is a deeply fucked up, traumatic part of our carceral system.

Growing up I was always told that our system had checks and balances to keep one of the three branches of government from getting too powerful. Makes sense. Now it feels like that there is no actual check or balance on the Supreme Court, and it adds checks or balances to the other two on a whim.
