And the answer is a data privacy bill consistently yelled by actual privacy experts as Himes alluded to. When folks like @evacide.bsky.social who literally removes stalkerware from domestic violence victims calls a ban a sham, that is a good sign to go back to the drawing board.

The last time Bytedance was proven to use TikTok for surveillance in the US, the people doing it were Chinese nationals in China at the parent company. Chinese law there compels them to follow CCP orders. There’s no extradition treaty. The CCP doesn’t care what US law is unless it protects them.
