An American friend of mine came up with the idea of combining udon and donuts (and the name “udonuts”) more than 25 years ago. He even made a test batch in his Tokyo apartment. Of course we thought he was crazy…

I want to know more about these exploding orange cones, which sounds like a genuine health and safety issue. "All of us in our everyday lives can see something's gone wrong regulating safety on the roads with the explosion of orange cones.”

Yes, I guess that’s cheap as far as accommodation goes, and food (croissants!) is included. Working ten hours a week also sounds attractive, but not sure about showering at swimming pools.

According to Facebook, it’s a year since I joined the queue in the searing heat of Hanoi to view the embalmed corpse of Ho Chi Minh. Apparently he wanted to be cremated.

I'm sure it’s been said before, but there’s something very manga-like about the cinematography in Netflix’s RIPLEY (and it’s not just because it’s in black and white). It’s beautiful to watch, and Andrew Scott is great as the protagonist.

Really enjoyed this exhibition at the Christchurch Art Gallery on the theme of "twentieth-century Aotearoa New Zealand artists exploring urban, suburban and industrial landscapes." Many of the featured artists, around half of whom are women, have close connections to Ōtautahi.

Another flashback, this one to the 2009 Wellington Jazz Festival. I’d never heard of Tomasz Stanko, but his gig on March 7 (with Marcin Wasilewski on piano) was the best concert I've ever been to. I believe there’s a recording of it in the Radio New Zealand vault!
