I read each and every one of your NYT columns and always say you’re the best political writer in the US. I’m not convinced, but, as I said, let’s have Harris then! Otherwise Dems and democracy are going to lose. Better a possibility than a certainty. I do not fancy being an immigrant in Trump’s USA.

There is no way the nominee stepping out doesn't cause unrest. If you run Harris, all the racists, and all the sexists will go for Trump, instead of just some of them. The narrative will be "The Crazy Left made this happen" and some of the centrist Dems will balk; 1980 floor fight; on steroids.

Biden is bleeding support with black voters. Skipping over Kamala for a white governor would be a slap in the face to a part of the coalition that already feels sidelined. There’s no argument to skip her. Make it Harris/Shapiro Harris/Witmer
