The tracking on a zine I bought from an international artist has just stopped working. It allegedly made it into Canada on June 28th, and I still don't have it... And the tracking number only works on the sender's country's mail tracking site. :[

There are also not as many of the right kind of event. There are lots of comics-specific events in Japan where people make and sell fanbooks or original comics. There are comics events in North America, but they're very different and I think probably even considered niche.

I went to a Furby meetup during VanCAF and felt very pleased with myself when I showed photos of my Furby, said her name was Lady Acid, and got nods and murmurs of approval while people passed the photo around. (Didn't physically bring her because we already had enough to pack for the convention.)

I think it's sort of cute when you introduce a fact as setting or character "flavor" and then a bunch of readers overthink it and worry about some kind of disaster occurring. Thank you for being concerned about the fictional people. They will be fine.

My wife moved here from the US 9 years ago and one of the other, less dire things they had trouble with was learning to cope with how far apart everything is. The US is really densely populated and cities are close together. Canada isn't, and major cities can be 8+ hour drives away.

Absolutely. Also, no one can "own" baseball itself the way a company owns Hot Wheels or Strawberry Shortcake, so there was some ability to escape brands and whatnot that way. But they've figured out how to monetize childhood forever, so I don't think they'll stop...

Seeing all these ads for items clearly meant to pander to the nostalgia of our age group (Polly Pocket-shaped purses, movies about beloved toy lines, constant reboots/reimaginings of characters so our generation can share it with their kids, etc.) is just. Idk, it's really shameless.
