After years of reading rave reviews we’re watching “Evil” and four episodes in — and I’m asking this as someone who likes it just fine—is… is this the whole show? Is there another gear that it kicks into or…?

Yes, it becomes more than just a procedural by the end of Season 1; and from Season 2 onwards it gets (and stays) pretty bonkers.

My review (www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-review...), which was based on the first three or four episodes, was a bit "It's good, but Is this all there is?" Season 2 made my Top 10 for its year.

A key thing to be aware of is season one was made for CBS, and you can tell. The rest were Paramount+ exclusives. (Although season 2 feels a bit retrofitted, I recall a lot of "look, we can say 'fuck' now!")

It gets better and deeper (and funnier and more thoughtful and more alarming) as it goes on. Truly.
