On the value scale, it's best to stay away from the top and bottom and keep a "healthy" range on the scale without going too far. Too much and you can break the illusion of 3D, too little and you'll never succeed. Turned my painting into black and white. A little more contrast than I'd like.
Question: Is there a way to correct that range after you've already put brushstrokes on canvas, or do ya just have to kinda go back and redo everything again?
I sorta worry about the opposite when it comes to value. I find myself not using enough overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows for my tastes, feeling a bit flat.
Iβm embarrassed to admit that while I understand shadows better now than I did when I first attempted to do digital art, I still canβt get them right without making things look washed up or flat. π
