Went out to see a ball game with my friends. The team I'm rooting for all had great opinions, so it was pretty basedball.

Little cheat for drawing fabric. All folds in the cloth trend towards the point of most tension.

I'm happy to work on them myself! It helps resolidify it in my brain these old lessons I'd not really forgotten but a healthy amount of dust has built up on them!

Just an attempt to explain how I approach shading. If you look back in my history hopefully I've given enough bits and pieces for it to not be confusing!

Okay maybe, a bit complex of a topic for now, and you shouldn't break the rules until you've learned them, but I thought this was interesting!

That's certainly also a problem! But in those situations just add in a wider range of the value scale and you're good to go! Just make sure you don't push it into the under/ overexposed places, because that just flattens it again!

I've got plans to make full page versions of these available. I just need to figure out if I'm actually explaining myself in such a way that someone who's never drawn will be able to understand what I'm saying. xD

Mmh! Yeah that's certainly a problem for me too. I just gotta keep it straight in my head that ambient light will never be more powerful than directional light. Changing it to b&w and checking to see that my ambient light isn't too powerful or too weak is made easier with that in mind!

I have that problem too. I have a tendency to overwork everything. I've found a kind of solution in just having a layer that turns things black and white on standby and check to make sure my values are still good. Starting B&W let's me get more accurate values, but I find it washes out my colors.

To be clear, you should know about highlights, darks, core of darks, reflected light, cast shadow, and occlusion, but assuming you do and you'll add those in later, just keep it simple for yourself!

Not specifically. This is just showing the difference between flats and values.

No problem! Don't forget to express yourself, that's more important! Trust me when I say "getting it right" is over-rated!

You could also set up a quick white color layer overtop to check your values like I did here! Color pick your brightest and darkest. Past 90% up or 10% down you've gone too far. If you're spread along all that lies between those two ranges reduce contrast. Everything else is personal flavor!

I've no doubt you are getting better! Here's what I'd do to change this! Quick examination revealed a key that I would say to bring down to a lower high value. I took the clouds to 81 and tighten up the range of values a bit as you're all over the scale. Brightness/ contrast filter did this!

I'm a firm believer that it's never too late to fix something, it's just a matter of how much work you're willing to put in to fix it! In this case, it's the brightness/ contrast sliders that comes standard with clip studio! Brightness to change your key and contrast to change your range!

On the value scale, it's best to stay away from the top and bottom and keep a "healthy" range on the scale without going too far. Too much and you can break the illusion of 3D, too little and you'll never succeed. Turned my painting into black and white. A little more contrast than I'd like.
