I think there is this ignorant idea held across the political spectrum that CA is where all the liberals are, that it's THE liberal stronghold, so then people conclude that the best person is whoever is in charge of all that.

Or, alternatively, it is not a change to the definition but a change in its application. Perhaps it is not applicable to think of liberal democracy as revolutionary at all, or perhaps it is not applicable to refer to a given context (in this case, the US) as having been a liberal democracy.

Spent the evening playing a boardgame (Raiders of the North Sea), listening to thematically appropriate music (Wardruna), and having some local brews (405) with my wife and some friends. I think that was definitely the right call.

Similarly, and not to in any way agree with Walters, but it would be 100% great if more Oklahomans learned more about Bible as document, in terms of authorship, provenance, historical context, etc. Nothing made me more critical of Christianity than taking multiple biblical criticism classes.

Something I wonder is to what degree people are aware they don't really understand this economy. I think deep down there is an anxiety-inducing confusion for many/most, but I wonder how many people maintain that they mostly or even complete lly understand how things work.

Do you have any tips for finding textbooks specifically aimed at reading, as you mention? It seems like most of what I encounter is for your typical Language 101 course, or for tourism, which are both very different from the purpose you describe.

The entire western liberal order is screaming a chorus of "China is making too much green energy infrastructure", and it is ludicrously absurd. Serious environmentalists need to start challenging this. Western geopolitics are working to destroy one of the only bright lights in reducing emissions.

I think it's more likely that people saw the response to covid and (somewhat logically) concluded that no one is running this thing and that society is held together with scotch tape and fairy dust, so a lot of people are now acting (either intentionally or subconsciously) complete unrestrained.

We had a shooting at a local dog park (and of course many other anger-induced casual shootings in OK) so now my fear is that I'm going to be at a park, encounter a loose dog that comes at me, I kick or otherwise subdue the dog, and its owner shoots me.

A friend of mine had a signature dish he'd serve at or bring to parties that he called "Cheeto Salad". The dish consisted of him buying 4+ different Cheeto or Cheeto-adjacent chips and mixing them in a big bowl. It was always a hit.

It's very frustrating that terms for political argument have shifted to whether or not something has even happened, rather than if that thing is good. Instead of arguing about if the GND would be good, one must argue w/ right-wingers to convince them that it didn't, in fact, even get passed.
