why did weird "let's do a rap" novelty songs just randomly have three backup singers. was there a hot 80s rapper that just hung out with a weird girl group all the time?

my non-joking read: "let's do a rap" types musically heavily influenced/connected to more classic r&b and soul types (the supremes, pointer sisters, etc) makes sense in their brain to have them involved. additionally also covers for limitations of their own musical talent or lack thereof
