A question for Simeon Brown. Why are you doing this when our road safety record is demonstrably worse than other countries? Our road deaths are more than TWICE as bad as either Ireland or the UK & over 50% worse than Australia.
Just for context it took me under five minutes to find these stats. So they're also very easily available to officials - the question then is if the minister was made aware of them and if not, why not. If he was told, how does this policy improve road safety?
My guess is they don't really care if people die
So long as they keep their donors happy
Faster speed limits means the trucking industry make more money
More smokers means the tobacco industry make more money
Its because someone drives him to work and home every day.
Mitchell, chauffeurs, probably his mum.
So he doesn't care about you and me driving on these shitty roads.
Not enough people in NZ died on the alter of capitalism during covid, NAct1st are trying to make up for it.
I swear I feel like I am living in some horror scifi with this govt.
I'd be happy if the current rules were enforced. Loads of kids don't cycle to school because of the way looney parents drive and park. We're also one if the most obese counties in the world.
Only time most off road vehicles go off road is to park on the footpath.
The question to ask when considering an increase in speed limit from 100 to 110 WRT deaths is more:
Of the accidents caused by speed that did not result in death at 100, how many would be deaths at 110?
New Zealand's road toll used to be as bad as that of the USA. Over the past decade, NZ saw a good declining trend [polite cough] but Australia made much better progress. Minister for Transport Brown wants the Ozzies to win, I guess.
