That’s more inside baseball than I am aware of, but I do think it’s 100% based on checkout time, but the stall might come when someone doesn’t check out their copy immediately. I do know managing the collection usually entails maintaining a certain holds:copy ratio so waits don’t get obscene.

Libraries license X number of simultaneous checkouts, usually on two year cycles, so it’s X times whatever your library’s checkout period is assuming no one returns it early and no licenses expire. Source: my wife is an electronic content librarian and manages our local Overdrive/Libby collection.

I had completely forgotten that the TVs came on for Oklahoma City, but they sure did. For the OJ verdict, I just remember the principal coming on the PA, saying “it’s on” and class immediately grinding to a halt. Throw in a 9/11 and that’s some formative generational trauma.

In my 20s I went through a period where I really regretted majoring and not minoring in history in favor of something more “practical”, but now that I’m about to turn 40 I am glad I made the decisions I did.

I suppose that offsets it immediately playing in my brain (it hasn’t been quite as long for me though, Portland Trail Blazers had a guy named Maurice on the team until a few years ago, and the people who choose the “just scored a basket” music at games skew older.)
