I feel like the aggressive move to doomerism is partly because the general "the world won't end and you're overdramatic if you think it will" attitude contributed somewhat to Trump's first election. Or at least it feels like it did to enough people to influence their behavior.

Biden thought Trump would embarrass himself with obvious, stupid lies and Trump thought Biden would come off as a tired old man. They were both right, but only Biden's supporters actually care about the reality of their candidate, while Trumpers have long shown no interest in facts or decency.

I think it's more that dem voters actually expect basic competence from their elected officials... Repub voters are happy as long as "the woke" are made miserable, regardless of if it actively makes their own lives measurably worse

I think that's pretty much how they decided to run with it by the end. They had to acknowledge that Peg was a smoke show, so they had to address how and why Al didn't find her attractive, and that's the only excuse that made sense.

I love that, in the dic dub, they made Neptune and Uranus cousins to explain why they're so close, but didn't really change anything else about their relationship, so instead of just making them seem not gay they just came off as incestuous.
