Yesterday, in my seminar on the history and philosophy of measurement, we had a spirited discussion about @cristianlarph.bsky.social's thought-provoking paper "Valid for what?"

The book is projected to come out with U Chicago Press in February 2025. I am supposed to be dealing with the copyedits right now... but have been too busy lately 😬 I think once the copyedits are done, I will be happy to share the manuscript more widely (psst...)

For today's meeting of my class on the philosophy of measurement, we are reading "Path-Dependence in Measurement: A Problem for Coherentism" by @morgankthomp.bsky.social. I'm looking forward to discussing this interesting paper with my students!

I'm confused. When I go to my profile and then click on "feed", there is nothing there.... Inkeri, I am going to have you explain this to me the next time I see you ;-)

Haha, that's funny. Thanks! Happy to know that he's remembered :-) He did win a Novel prize, after all.
He was from Ryazan, but if I recall correctly, you are not, right?

Thank you for this reference, and good point about asking Russian colleagues. Roger Smith and Irina Sirotkina are probably knowledgeable about this.

History of psychology Hive mind: Does anybody know whether (and when) Pavlov's book, Conditioned Reflexes, appeared in Russian as a book prior to being published in English in 1927?

Hi Graham, really nice to reconnect with you on here! I have a couple of economics-related readings on the syllabus, though not really under that description. I will send you the syllabus. My colleague Catherine Herfeld might be a good resource in that regard.

I did not know him well, but was just assuming (as we do) that there was plenty of time, and that we would have a chance to meet up and delve into a conversation about the history and philosophy of psychology eventually. RIP, Saulo.

I am shocked to learn that Saulo de Freitas Araujo has died, He was an immensely knowledgable historian of psychology, with special expertise about Wilhelm Wundt and William James. I had the privilege of writing a blurb for his most recent book (with Lisa Osbeck)

Earlier this semester, we started out with texts by @erantal.bsky.social, Hans Reichenbach, Bas van Fraassen, Joel Michell, and - of course - S.S. Stevens's classic piece on scales of measurement
