Great piece! Yeah, the trailers from 2016 for Election Year were not shy about it. The movie had to have been filmed too early...but the way the trailers kept hammering the phrase "The Senator" over and over really felt like they were siezing a moment.

Someone at the other place suggested doing a festival or series of double features of films like this. (Passion project filmed with stars on their downtime between calls on major blockbuster.) Breakfast of Champions/Armageddon is a great one.

This hits hard. And it's getting worse as theatre is dying. The people who make it are closing ranks and imo more distrustful of anyone who hasn't fully drunk the Kool-Aid. I don't want to talk about what shows are gonna be in the next season and who is gonna get which part all the damn time!
