Oh man, this week we welcome Tasha Crawford of SVU POD: Especially Heinous to the podcast to discuss a film from her youth that she hasn't seen in ages, seeing what she remembers about a '90s classic while regaling us with tales from her raucous youth. Wild ep here. Hold onto yer butts.

The fact that Perfect was on a worst of list is all I need to see to know this list is bunk.

Nice. I obviously had the same reaction, feeling like I’d seen it only to have definitely never seen it. I’ve had a lot of those “I was a little too old” moments so far (we’re like halfway through recording Season 2).

The two hours might be overstated. Feels like the weird and the retrospective kindertrauma likely outweigh Gene’s dickish sentiments.

I have no memory of the actual movie, but I vividly remember the scathing (and now poignant) Siskel & Ebert review: Gene says if Roger comes to his funeral, he wants Roger to know his last thoughts would have been he wished his life had two more hours of happiness by not watching Return to Oz.

Young Max Rieper of @royalsreview.bsky.social felt Return to Oz was superior to its predecessor The Wizard of Oz. How would its bleaker vision of the Land of Oz and a much younger Dorothy (a 10-year-old Fairuza Balk) play to a grown-up Max who'd not seen it in more than 35 years?

NEW ONE! This week's SVU takes us on a wild ride, starting with a working boy stumble-crashing a wedding in his boxers, dipping its toes in the water with Finnish furniture design and Altoona-style pizza, and finishing with a perp stroking Elliot's hand asking if he's going to protect her.

If SVU were to have ended with this past season finale, it would still take us until 11/18/2030 to finish this goddamn podcast. We’re gonna be doing this shit forever. You’re welcome?

I get the sense the original Hiding Out screenplay was a straightforward mob drama. But after Cruise and Penn passed, the producers got Cryer and gave a script doctor a weekend — and a large baggie of cocaine — to try to turn it into a teen comedy. They failed.

We watched the Jon Cryer flick Hiding Out with guest, Brian Mann. What about this tale of a 29-year-old taking cover in high school while on the run, grooming a high school girl in the process, resonated with 8-year-old Brian? Also, what did the Jon Cryer say to Josh when told he'd just seen this?

NEW ONE! Cold Case comes in with a cold case, and Olivia's ancient history screams into this week's big-round-numbered SVU. The old friends who join us this week are a welcome sight. Olivia's personal relationship with an older man alluded to in prior episodes, however, was much less welcome.

Sean and Josh wrap up last week's film, The Beastmaster, before welcoming modern Middle Eastern history professor Brian Mann to the pod to unpack his childhood drawn to movies featuring the star of next week's film announced in this Qs and Tease ep. Fun time with a guy who didn't peak in Jr High.

Were ferrets still as cool as they were to young J-Bone? Did Jeremy go straight out into his backyard to play Beastmaster? The answer to these and so many more questions are contained within this week's wildly fun episode, available on all podcast platforms and on our YouTube Channel.

We watched an old ferret-forward favorite of writer/musician @jgsteen.bsky.social, THE BEASTMASTER. A favorite when he was 8, it'd been 30 years since he'd seen it. Would Dar's courting techniques set off his creepDar? How would the first tiger performing in blackface play to 2024 Jeremy?

Talked with writer, musician, and righteous dude @jgsteen.bsky.social this week about his wasted time on set of Terrence Malick's Song to Song, the possible origins of his aversion to eating meat, having "bad" band names, and whether or not he "played [next week's film]" with his best friend.

There is also a brand new Vestron Steelbook Blu-Ray release of The Gate exclusively available at Wal-Mart, if that's your jam (we don't get any money out of that). Link rendered oddly, but it's in the show notes.

A staple of his childhood, The Gate also left Daniel impressed that he was able to withstand its scares as a child, which is all the more surprising when hearing that it was supposed to be MUCH harsher than the finished product ended up being. You can watch The Gate on Prime/Tubi/Plex. Listen here:

We revisited surprisingly scary The Gate with best-selling author Daniel H. Wilson (Robopocalypse, Robogenesis, & The Andromeda Evolution). Starring 12YO Stephen Dorff, an eventual Satanist, Kenny Powers's SIL, and a creepily sexualized teen actress, this tween horror flick really brings the SFX.

Man, I forgot about "Cocoon," but it was big time. This is a righteous trip down memory lane to a simpler time when old people breakdanced and Wilfred Brimley was not yet menacing. I remember a neighbor kid was all excited when it came out on VHS because he'd heard about a pool sex scene. Poor kid.

Did the extreme horniness of this film about the Greatest Generation, the aliens who inhabited Atlantis, and a down-on-his-luck fisherman catch Peter off guard as much as it did Josh and Sean? Listen or watch on YouTube and find out.

NEW MAIN EVENT IS UP! We dove into the abandoned pool and explored the high-water mark of the Geriatric Renaissance, Cocoon, with former improv/stand-up comic Peter Johansen. How would being the exact age of one of the "septuagenarians" in the film play to him? Come get some.
