Ironic that MP David McLeod, chair of Environment Committee hearing #FastTrackBill submissions

has been stood down for nondisclosure of political donations. Not a good look with concerns over Bill enabling corruption or bribery #nzpol

Every panel that included a kiwi writer at the Writers Festival, had something awful to say about this govt and the pain we'll be going through for 3 years. Huge applause from the audience every time. I've never known an overwhelmingly unpopular govt. #nzpol

Patricia Grace's stories have been in my head for 30 years. Today I was so fortunate to hear her speak and then meet her afterwards.

Fantastic evening at the Auckland Writers' Fest. Becky Manawatu and Sinead Gleeson's session was full of warmth discussing connection to whenua. And a little sneak peek of Manawatu's 2nd novel. Emily Perkins & Lynn Davidson were talking about all aspects of women in mid life, control vs chaos.

Most people are more aware of homeopathy these days but my misguided purchase was just before Ben Goldacre's Bad Science was released. I've since questioned manufacturers about how much alcohol is in their homeopathic teething sprays. 5% it turns out, should just rub some whisky on their gums π³

Completely agree but the PM seems to sit lower down the hierarchy than Peters or Seymour, so does nothing. What leadership!

What I'd say to you, right, is that I cannot say it more clearly than that.
Of course he can't, he's incompetent. Which brings me back to the immortal words of Rebecca Wright "Confidence is not competence Christopher".

Imagine if Ardern turned up to her own press conference and couldn't answer questions about her new policy. Imagine if she didn't have clear coherent answers. Luxon is the epitome of failing up and in true Dunning Kruger fashion, he has no idea he's so incompetent.

As a mum dealing with a crying baby that never slept, I bought homeopathic teething powder at a chemist. I asked about the potency etc and noone could answer. I soon found out homeopathic remedies are placebos and non-regulated. I was ripped off. Now they can do it again, thanks Winnie.

Exactly! Anyone on the left that did this more than twice would be hammered by the press for incompetency. Instead we're "still getting to know him".

I guess it's the cost Winnie pays for support from the alternative wellness community. They chose him to get rid of regs around naturopathic remedies and this nonsense. I guess he's paying up.

How does he get away with this all the time? He tells lies or half truths, gets called out but no-one seems to care. If a leftie MP did this, all hell would break loose. π€·π»ββοΈ

Oh you're kidding π. Sick of this govt. They said structured literacy would work best but I didn't pick that they would scrap reading recovery at the same time, which is definitely needed for those with additional needs.

This was just one thing I noticed and dug into (Bethlehem caught my eye after David Farrier's reporting on the high school). But I imagine if I did a different search criteria for something like drug counselling, there's probably some quacks. Whole thing needs an audit.

There had to be a way to privatise benefits and they've found it. What utter bollocks. Imagine being a highly skilled policy analyst who has been dumped by the govt and having to go to some basic work skills session instead of job hunting.

7 out of 89 counsellors offering LGBTQIA+ services on Gumboot Friday have qualifications from religious tertiary institutions. These are Bethlehem Tertiary Institute (an offshoot of the anti LGBTQIA high school), Vision and Laidlaw. Is this concerning?

Did Seymour just admit he's woke today? He says sushi is woke and he was recently spotted with other ACT pals at Azabu in Mission Bay. But maybe the added Peruvian fusion with Japanese makes sushi less woke? π€·π»ββοΈ

I don't think it will make much difference. The lack of support for kids with minor to severe learning disabilities has been appalling for the last 2 govts, at least. So this is basically no change. The learning support system needs a huge change and more resources, something this govt won't do.

Melissa Lee's responses to media were odd but I feel it's because of Luxon's framework for cabinet. If he was more experienced himself he could have coached her on how to say nothing to press without saying "I'm not telling you". This is a complete failure of leadership and mentoring.

More broken promises as expected. Today's count alone, is at least 3: frontline staff numbers; emergency housing in Rotorua extended for 2 years; Stanford hiring contractors to do the work of those fired from MoE.

There's 2 reasons Key's govt had lower state services staff numbers: they lowballed services until there was literally poo running down the walls of hospitals, and they hired contractors so the numbers looked lower (a classic corporate trick).
