Fwiw, I think a freshly-anointed presidential nominee Kamala Harris would get a honeymoon reception in the media because a candidate swooping in from the sidelines to challenge Trump is a phenomenal story and they would absolutely build up that aspect of it, at least at first.

Here's the thing - if you go and ask ordinary people irl about Biden rn, just purely anecdotally, they'll tell you they dont want him in the race and aren't enthusiastic for him at all. The polls bear that out irl. I take zero delight saying this but it's why he won't be the nominee very soon.

Yep. In 2016, Trump actually beat Hillary on the issues of "trustworthiness" and "honesty" in the end. It was ridiculous and totally undeserving, but the anti-Hillary messaging was so effective that people really believed she was just as bad as him by the end.

I wish more ppl got that perception is reality. It doesn't matter that Biden is probably fine and saner and more competent than Trump. These are things that DO NOT matter in a popularity contest. What matters is what people *believe*, and headlines like this reinforce that.

But why would you assume that the polls - if they're wrong - would skew to Biden when if anything they'd skew to Trump like they did both times he's been on the ballot? Also, those national polls weren't actually that wrong. Hillary did win by 2.1%. The problem is the electoral college skews R too.

I think if the Warriors could somehow pair a second star w Steph, they'd have a decent little squad. But it's hard to see it materializing when Wiggins is around, his contract/level of play is like the ultimate sinkhole.

In 2016, Hillary had huge unfavorables but she led almost the whole race, so there was a logic to ppl thinking it would all work out. In 2024, Biden has huge unfavorables and is LOSING. It is now *ill*logical to assume he just wins, he is in a spectacularly worse position than HRC ever was.

What's wild to me is that their primary argument is basically "well maybe the polls are just not real." Like I've seen zero plan on how to overcome the collosal hole he's in if they're accurate, which most polls still are. It's just straight "maybe everything will work out" hopium.

Exactly. And Trump is really awkward around women and being an asshole to an older white guy looks very, very different than being an asshole to a younger black woman. Plus it makes the race about Trump being old and Trump having problems, there's a bunch of positives.

I'm on board w calling for Biden to leave, but it is objectively nuts that the most horrendous, deranged stories possible dropped about both Trump and RFK Jr. yesterday and yet neither story was able to resonate because of how much attention was going to Biden's age.

If Biden gets dropped, it's because Democratic constituents backed an extremely vulnerable candidate in 2016 on the pitch that they couldn't do better electorally, watched that candidate lose, and will go the rest of their life vowing to never get burned like that ever again.

And it will only get worse, the bad polls will create an apathetic doom loop where ppl don't even see the point in voting. If the election was held today, I think Biden would lose - but if the election was held in a month or two and Biden was still in it, I think he'd be wiped out.

There are ppl on here I really, really respect who don't seem to appreciate just *how* much ordinary, non-online Americans will not feel incentivized to vote for an 82-yr-old guy they were meh about to begin with who's now visibly deteriorating before their eyes - even if it means Trump wins again.

It's definitely alarming. But I think - hope - the reality of the situation will grow and grow until there's gonna be something of a backdoor revolt, and once the money starts vanishing he'll get that he's cooked. Because I know if I was a donor, I wouldn't give him a cent anymore.
