All this has led to me almost never posting anything personal here, b/c I don't care to deal with all the needy, cloying, overfamiliar responses. I've tried locking down replies, and even then, you people just quote-repost, as if your input was SO VITAL that I must not have meant to lock the post.

And this sucks, because I do have some close friends on here, and social networks are a great way to have wide-ranging conversations with your friends (and sometimes to make new friends!) so long as everybody respects basic, easily perceivable boundaries. But I've almost given up on that.

If you are so socially inept that you can't understand the difference between hitting the follow button on a social network and an irl friendship, you probably should just stay off social networks altogether, because you're a very annoying person and clearly don't know it.

It's very weird behavior to assume that you're going to be welcome in a personal conversation with someone you don't know. And because I know the kind of replies I'm about to get to this, let me just say up front that "this is a public website" is an instablock for me at this point.

If I choose to post something specific to my life here, I can absofuckinglutely guarantee you that what I am *not* looking for is 50 replies from people I don't follow about how your grandma also died one time. And I don't understand why it is so hard for people on here to get that.

More specifically: the #1 thing that I can't stand is the way so many Bluesky users seem to use this place as an open source therapy session (which is fine, I don't have to follow them!) and - here's the problematic part - **who assume that everyone else here wants that same experience.**

I really do prefer this app to Twitter, and don't miss Twitter at all most of the time, but I've been here long enough now for there to be some creeping dissatisfactions that are distinct from the things that drove me way from Twitter. And the biggest one is the overfamiliarity problem on here.
