especially for crossing mid block, the contribution needs context. Almost certainly the drivers hitting them are disproportionately likely to be speeding. And the remedy is to build more crossings, which is unlike the others.

I don't have the data, I'm not sure what's ideal. A straightforward check on these results could be, e.g., a map of insurance costs for houses between $400k and $600k. That should still demonstrate interstate differences. But some readers might not be quantitatively literate enough even for that.

Not explained, as reflected by you not having an explanation to share for why they didn't consider better metrics. My first post explained why it's not a good metric. $60k homes are much cheaper than the national average, we should expect e.g. window replacement to be a greater cost as % of price.

Stop being such a welfare case on public roads, and pay for track time for your hobby. Also learn to read, you can still speed up temporarily under any of the four systems described in the link.

amusing that a Mr Watts is adamantly against EVs, but frustrating that the NYT sends a sympathetic reporter to their hometown to report on federal welfare for climate denying Republicans (the bus is fine)

this is not a good metric, home insurance claims are not all proportional to home value "That was 3.5 percent of the average home value of about $60,000 — more than six times the national average."

thinking about congestion pricing again, and about how democratic hacks on here are denying it's a center right party / pretending it rewards the groups that consistently vote Dem. No Republicans to blame! Unified democratic failure from congress to city hall, and most of all the governor.

she absolutely can be worse. he picked her because he didn't want a politically powerful campaigner to threaten him I'm not saying he's doing the right thing by hanging on and not supporting her elevation years ago. I'd prefer her in the oval office. But we're burdened with past mistakes.

okay so you mean at best Biden will not extend Trump's tax cuts? Supporting the pre-trump tax code and income share is center right, globally speaking. The GOP is far right, definitely vote against them. But Dems should look abroad for better policies.

Yes vote for Biden because Trump is even worse. That's not the point. Hacks like you are pretending that more people voting for Dems specifically in the general election will influence Biden to be better. That's not how it works.

I too want everyone to vote for democrats in the general. It's just obvious that influence does not work the way they describe, there's a lot more upside in the primary, and even more upside if you're a billionaire donor.

@dgasser.bsky.social wrote this out, realized he was transparently being a hack by implying only the Blue Dogs prioritize the donor class, and blocked me before he could be corrected. Why log on? Is Biden handing out cookies to people who are nice to him?

Then Biden's base already opposes it!!! The whole premise of the people I was disagreeing with is that they think people opposed to the war in Gaza should vote more often for Democrats. You're showing how incoherent they are.

"cross" is bearing a lot of weight. eg IRA used a lot of money to shift jobs from China to red districts, instead of creating urban jobs accessible to more of the Democratic base. Maybe that's due to the constraints of Republicans in Congress, but that still harmfully suggests voting GOP.

you couldn't even parse my straightforward post, but your unrelated post is just vapid punching left. Do you have some sort of breakdown of how people opposed to genocide vote in dem primaries versus how they behave in general elections?

with the caveat that democratic politicians seem more interested in winning the groups that show up for Republicans than serving their own voters, bizarrely implying that these voters should go to the polls for trump (don't do that, but more to the point go vote against dem incumbents)

yeah congestion pricing probably wouldn't have stopped this. Otoh Hochul shutting down the modest congestion pricing plan is a pretty strong signal she'd oppose policies that could reduce vehicular violence like this.

the times has its own(er's) axe to grind regarding Biden, but overall I think this is motivated by people who think Biden will lose and want to look clever by explaining it in advance. I think they'll, accordingly, be even more shrill about Harris leading the ticket.

you see how making up wins on railroads isn't helping? You can just say "best labor president ever" and move on, or talk about other unions, without digging in on the most obvious loser issue to highlight

Do you maybe have some intuitive sense that the IBEW isn't the union at most risk of harmful labor practices from railroads?

Hard problems to describe. A vote from union members with a legal ability to strike would have clarified things.
