When you use ableist language, it is exactly about me and disabled people. You simply cannot separate the two things. This is like dropping the N-word and insisting "this isn't about Black people!" It's patently untrue and ridiculous on the face of it.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

Guess what? You can do that using more accurate and precise language! You can do that without perpetrating harm against disabled people! You can do that without being needlessly cruel! Disabled people don't want to be associated with the Klan, no matter how much you want them to be.

What if I told you that it isn't a good idea to throw disabled people under the bus to fight fascists? You need us too, being cruel to us for no reason than it is acceptable to be cruel to us doesn't fight fascism and, in fact, makes fascism easier.

It's important to note that this single-post analysis above is entirely consistent with a much more comprehensive analysis by @ketanjoshi.co showing that changes in the X algorithm and moderation policies that began in Oct 2022 have massively favoured trolls and penalized climate scientists.

That's one that I wonder about because I'm sure it was used for people with intellectual disabilities, but it was and is also used a lot for able bodied people who act in unreasonable or silly ways.

No, you're describing cruel, horrible people. Disabled people, like people who have intellectual disabilities, are not cruel and horrible. They don't deserve to be associated with Republicans, neo-confederates, fascists, racists, or Klan members.

I'm not asking society for this. I acknowledge that conservatives and centrists (mostly) don't give a shit and will delight in using this language just because they know it hurts people. I'm asking leftists and liberals who actually care and want to be allies with disabled people.

Nope. If we want to defeat ableism in society, we have to be better with language and stop using imprecise negative language that implies disabled people are bad and wrong just for existing. This is a big helping of "don't be so sensitive" which is what I was told when I had bullies growing up.

Disabled folks get treated like shit in every aspect of life & have to deal with that constantly. I wish more people understood that when disabled folks ask for the bare minimum in accessibility instead of responding with dismissiveness and apathy when asked for small accessibility changes.
